A ring engraving is one of the most personal details you can add to a piece of jewellery — a date, a promise, a pair of initials, or a small phrase only the two of you understand. At JIORY, every engraving is carefully reviewed and approved before it is added to your ring, from wording and font to spacing and final layout.
RING ENGRAVING IDEAS
The first step is deciding on the message. There is no single rule — your engraving can be romantic, minimal, symbolic, or quietly personal.
For an engagement ring
An engagement ring engraving often marks the beginning of your story. Popular choices include a short phrase, your initials, or a word that carries private meaning between the two of you.
Examples:
- Always
- A♡C
- One and Only
- Always Yours
For a wedding band
A wedding band engraving tends to represent commitment and a shared promise. The message is often simple — a date, a name, a vow — or a combination that tells the whole story in one line.
- Your wedding date
- Your names or initials
- A short vow or meaningful word
- A combination of initials, names, or phrase with a date
Examples:
- May 1, 2025
- Forever
- Our Journey Begins
- C & L Two Souls, One Heart
- Amy & Jacob 20270812
- XII·IX·MMXXVI
Modern & Split Engraving for Wedding Bands
A split engraving divides one phrase between two rings. Each ring carries part of the message, and the sentence only feels complete when both bands are placed together. It is a quiet, modern detail that connects two rings without being obvious.
- Example 1 — Ring 1: To Infinity · Ring 2: & Beyond
- Example 2 — Ring 1: Always · Ring 2: Yours
- Example 3 — Ring 1: Our Journey · Ring 2: Begins
Split engravings work best with short phrases. We will prepare a layout preview for both rings before engraving so you can review the spacing and balance together.

Replacing the Heart Symbol with a Stone
Instead of a typed heart, you can place a small diamond or gemstone between your initials. This turns the engraving into a hidden jewellery detail — subtle, personal, and unique to your ring.
- A diamond C
- A sapphire C
- A birthstone C
Some couples choose a diamond for timelessness; others choose a birthstone to represent a birthday, anniversary month, or meaningful colour.

RING ENGRAVING FONT STYLES
Once you have decided on the message, the next step is choosing how it looks. We offer two main engraving styles.
Block Font — Questrial
Block font is clean, modern, and easy to read. It works especially well for dates, initials, and short phrases where legibility matters most.
Best for:
- Dates and initials
- Numbers and coordinates
- Minimal, contemporary engraving
- Rings with limited inner space
Script Font — Waterfall
Script font feels softer and more handwritten. It suits romantic phrases and sentimental wording, and gives the engraving a more personal, elegant quality.
Best for:
- Romantic phrases and promises
- Sentimental wording
- Wider bands with more engraving space
- A softer, more personal look
Script fonts generally require more space than block fonts. Very small letters or long phrases may be difficult to read once engraved, so we will always advise on what works best for your specific ring.

Script fonts look beautiful, but legibility matters — we will always guide you on what works at a small scale.
CAN I USE MY OWN FONT?
If you have a specific font in mind, you are welcome to send us the name or a reference image. We will check whether it is suitable for engraving and whether it remains readable at a small size inside a ring. Some fonts look beautiful on screen but lose fine detail when engraved — we will always prepare a preview for you to review before anything is finalised.
BEFORE WE ENGRAVE
Before any engraving begins, we will send you a sample layout to review. This lets you check the wording, spelling, date format, font style, spacing, and overall balance. Engraving is permanent, so we only proceed once you have approved the final design.
We only proceed once you have approved the final layout — engraving is a permanent detail.
A note on placement and resizing
We engrave on the inside of the ring unless discussed otherwise — this keeps the message private, protected, and personal during everyday wear. We also avoid placing engravings at the very bottom of the band, as this is where resizing work is typically done. Engraving in that area risks damage if the ring is ever resized in the future.
If you would like engraving on the outside of the shank, let us know in advance and we will explore what is possible for your specific design.
An engraving does not need to be long to be meaningful. A date, a pair of initials, or a single word can carry the whole story. Whether you prefer a clean block font, a romantic script, a hidden gemstone between initials, or a split phrase shared between two bands, we will help you create something that feels true to your relationship and your ring.
